The Almaguin Highlands Health Centre (AHHC) is a not-for-profit organization focused on returning and expanding quality healthcare services to the Almaguin Highlands region. This region spans up the Highway 11 corridor from just north of Huntsville to just south of North Bay, Ontario.
Recent cutbacks have meant that the only "full service" healthcare facility in this 2400 square kilometre area is now closed. A full-time population of 12,500, which doubles to over 25,000 including seasonal residents in summer, must now travel 45 to 60 minutes to receive even emergency care.
We believe there is an approach to healthcare in this region which will be cost-effective and will ensure that our residents receive the quality healthcare they deserve. Working in cooperation with all stakeholders, the AHHC is in the midst of putting its plans together to meet these needs. We will be looking for input from caregivers and residents alike on the best approach. Our goal is to ensure quality healthcare for the citizens, permanent and seasonal, of the Almaguin Highlands.
